Our First AI Unleashed TY Workshop: Empowering the Next Generation with AI Skills

We are thrilled to share the success of our very first AI Unleashed workshop, designed specifically for Transition Year (TY) students and teachers. Held earlier this month, the event marked an exciting step towards bringing real-world AI skills into Irish classrooms — and the energy on the day was simply electric!

Throughout the workshop, students and teachers engaged in fun, hands-on activities that introduced them to the world of artificial intelligence. From experimenting with AI-powered apps to building their own mini-projects, participants had the opportunity to see how AI is already shaping the world around us — and how they can safely and effectively harness its potential.

One of the key focuses of the day was showing students how to use AI responsibly. As AI tools like ChatGPT and image generators become more common in education and the workplace, it’s essential that students understand not only how to use these technologies but also when and why to use them. We explored topics such as:

• Ethical use of AI

• Critical thinking when evaluating AI outputs

• How AI can assist with Leaving Cert coursework

• Problem-solving using AI tools
  

Teachers also participated fully, gaining valuable insights into how AI can be used to enhance teaching and learning in their own classrooms. Together, students and teachers developed a deeper understanding of the opportunities — and challenges — that come with integrating AI into education.

Feedback from the day was incredibly positive. Many students said they felt more confident about using AI for schoolwork and future careers, while teachers were excited to start incorporating AI discussions and activities into their TY programmes.
